Cliffs of Moher

- Cliffs of Moher
- The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's most spectacular and breathtaking sights. The Cliffs of Moher rise from Hag's Head to the south and reach their highest point (230 meters) just north of
O'Brien's Tower before slowly declining north again. On a clear day, the view is astounding reaching over to the Aran Islands, Galway Bay and into West Connemara.
The Cliffs of Moher are spectacular for the magical and mystical atmosphere of looking upon the cliffs, with the flocks of birds living within the crevices and the enormous roar of the Atlantic ocean as its pounds the base of the cliffs below.
Visitors are warned to be very careful and under no circumstances should cross over the perimeter fence which
separates the cliffs edge from the viewing areas. A visit to the Cliffs of Moher will not
disappoint and we highly recommend it.
If you visit the Cliffs of Moher, make sure you dress warmly as even during the summer with an overcast sky and strong winds blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean, the temperatures can be very low. The cliffs of Moher are one of the most visited tourist attractions in the West of Ireland and are well worth the visit.
The tower was built in 1835 by Cornelius O'Brien, a descendant of Brian Boru. The High King of Ireland, and the O'Brien's of Bunratty Castle, Kings of Thomond, as an observation point for the hundreds of tourists who even then visited the Cliffs.
O'Brien's Tower is the best location from which to view the Cliffs, from this vantage point one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins and the Maum Turk Mountains to the north in Connemara and Loop Head to the South
There is a visitor centre open where you can avail of restaurant facilities, shop and information centre. Click Here for more information on the centre.
